Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

The Research Centre for Mathematics and Theoretical Physics carries out internationally recognised research and advances current understanding across a wide spectrum of topics from pure mathematics to theoretical physics. One main theme of our research is the rich interaction of algebra, geometry, higher categorical structures and theoretical physics.

Talk in Cambridge Quantum Information Theory Seminar
On 14 April, Dr Severin Bunk was an invited speaker in the Quantum Information Seminar at the University of Cambridge, hosted by Dr Alex Turzillo and Dr Frank Verstraete, Leigh Trapnell Professor of Quantum Physics. Severin gave an introduction to his work on higher categorical structures in geometry. These have recently received interest from condensed matter physics and quantum information theory.
Talk at Harvard CMSA
On 27 April, Dr Charles Young gave an invited talk in the Quantum Field Theory and Physical Mathematics Seminar at the Harvard Center for Mathematical Sciences and Applications (Harvard CMSA). He presented recent results on higher geometric and algebraic structures in conformal field theories obtained jointly with his PhD student Laura Felder in an international collaboration Zhengping Gui from the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences.
