Expertise, funding and networks to start up safely

You can book one-to-one appointments with our advisors, and apply for our start-up programmes and seed funding. Existing business owners may want to join our Incubator Programme which gives exclusive access to tailored events, workshops, advice sessions and great networking opportunities with a like-minded cohort.

Flare enterprising ideas challenge

Flare is our flagship annual competition that gives budding student and alumni entrepreneurs the opportunity to make their business ideas a reality, while developing crucial business skills and growing their network. All entrants receive business support, feedback and advice at each stage of the competition.

With a prize pool of £20,000 and individual prizes of up to £3,000 to be won this is an outstanding opportunity to bring the biggest of dreams to life!

Entrepreneur-focused events

Our range of annual events for budding business owners includes bootcamps, workshops, webinars, and up to 10 hours one-to-one with a specialist business mentor to help you get your idea off the ground.

We also celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week in November, which provides students and alumni opportunities to meet business leaders, learn about entrepreneurship, find inspiration and grow their network.

Aspiring alumni entrepreneurs and business owners can also participate in the Graduate Entrepreneur Programme and other alumni-specific enterprise support.

Resources to help you build a better business

Online system Cobra offers students and alumni access to start-up resources. We also provide a range of support programmes that combine funding, group training sessions, and one-to-one mentoring with specialist advisors to help you explore your business ideas and potential market opportunities.

Start-up support for international postgraduate students

We offer a start-up visa support programme for international graduates looking to set up a business in the UK and one-to-one support for those looking to explore a business idea in their own countries.

The Enterprise team has been pivotal in my success as a business owner. Thanks to the grant awarded to me by the Enterprise team and Santander bank, I was able to buy the needed equipment to start the business.

The Enterprise team at the University of Hertfordshire has fast-forwarded my entrepreneurial journey by giving valuable advice and keeping a regular check on me which I definitely needed in my first few months. I've come really far in my career and I'm really thankful to the Enterprise team for making me an almost independent entrepreneur.

Being exposed to other entrepreneurs, direct support from the Enterprise team and having the deadlines/requirements (i.e. business plan) of the Flare competition helped me thoroughly plan and structure my ideas and set up the business.
