Returning students

Before you start each year of study at Herts, you'll need to complete registration to confirm you are continuing your course. This includes students who are studying on a distance learning course or on placement.

The deadline to complete registration is Monday 9 February for most returning students, but please check in case you have an earlier deadline for your course. It’s important to complete registration as soon as you can each year to continue your studies.

If you’re returning to continue with your course, a study abroad year, placement year, or are college students or doctoral college researchers who are off-site, you will still need to complete online registration.

If your student record has not changed to registered status within five days of completing online registration, please contact the Ask Herts team so we can sort that out for you.

Ready to complete registration?

Let’s take you through each step:

Step 1 - check for our email
You will receive an email from the University inviting you to complete online registration.
If you haven’t received an email from us, check your junk/trash email in your personal inbox. If you haven’t received an email from us ahead of your course start date, please contact our Ask Herts team. Make sure to include your student ID number when you contact us.
Step 2 – login to your account
As soon as you receive your registration email from the University, please complete the following:
Click on the link called ‘online registration' and follow the instructions to re-register. This should be familiar, as it's the same process you followed when you first registered at the start of your course.
Once you have completed online registration, please allow the system 24 hours to update overnight. You can then log into your university account to check that your status has updated to ‘Registered’.
Step 3 – check your fees and funding
Make sure you’ve paid any tuition and accommodation fees. If you’re not sure when you need to pay your fees, be sure to check, so that you can make sure you have everything covered.
If you are a UK or an EU student, remember that you’ll need to re-apply for funding each year. Your Student Loan Company (SLC) payment cannot be released until you have completed registration.
