The School of Life and Medical Sciences offers multidisciplinary research programmes within the stimulating and supportive environment of the specialist facilities that enable our researchers to address challenging questions of global significance in the core life and medical sciences disciplines.

The School is in a privileged position of being in a University which sits in one of the UK's largest pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life science clusters. Our researchers already work in collaboration with European partners, pharmaceutical industry, small business enterprise, biotechnology companies and both the NHS and private healthcare providers.

We have a strong history of translating research into industrial practice in support of wealth creation and lead the Patient Safety Node within the Eastern Academic Health Sciences Network.

Research degrees

The School currently has over 200 students studying for higher research degrees. They come from a diverse range of backgrounds including the UK, EU and overseas.
