Each year, we invite industry professionals to volunteer as a Mentor for Career Mentoring, our exciting six-month mentoring scheme.

Career Mentoring is a targeted programme that pairs industry professionals with University of Hertfordshire students from courses who, according to graduate employment data, will benefit from having a Mentor.

The scheme supports undergraduate students to achieve their full potential through one-to-one supportive learning relationships. The 2023/24 participating courses are Accounting, Business and Accounting, Film and Television Production, and International Tourism Management.

As a Mentor, you will play a key role in building students’ confidence in their skills and prospects as they prepare to transition from university into the workplace.

Mentoring FAQs

Who are we looking for?
We are actively seeking professionals from a range of industries and organisations to become Mentors, and we are particularly keen to hear from University of Hertfordshire alumni.
- We are looking for Mentors with the ability to boost students’ confidence and inspire personal and professional growth
- You will have proven professional experience, that is likely to have been obtained over a period of at least 2 years
- Mentors of Accounting students should have, or be working towards, accounting qualifications
What commitment is required?
Your primary role will be to motivate and empower students to make their own decisions about their career options. We will carefully match Mentors with students and provide support at every stage.
The scheme requires a commitment of five one-hour mentoring sessions over a six-month period between January and June 2024. We recommend that at least one of the mentoring sessions is in-person, although they can be fully face to face, online only, or a mixture of both.
You will also be invited to attend a mandatory training course in autumn 2023.
