NHS Learning Support Fund

If you're studying nursing, midwifery or an eligible allied health profession, you may be eligible for at least £5,000 a year from the NHS Learning Support Fund to help with living costs.

This funding is available to both new and continuing degree-level students and does not need to be repaid. The support forms part of a national government initiative to help grow the healthcare workforce, including plans to increase the number of nurses across the UK.

Eligible students receive a minimum £5,000 annual payment. Depending on your circumstances, you may also qualify for additional support, including:

  • £1,000 for specialist disciplines with workforce shortages;
  • up to £2,000 towards childcare costs;
  • access to the Exceptional Hardship Fund of up to £3,000.

You can receive the Learning Support Fund alongside tuition fee and maintenance loans from Student Finance England.

To qualify, you must meet the full NHS Learning Support Fund eligibility criteria, including residency requirements, as set out in the NHS Learning Support Fund guidance.
