FAQs
We understand that Clearing can be a bit daunting so we’re here to help answer your most frequently asked questions.
Clearing opens on 2 July, but you can apply to Herts from 27 June. All courses in Clearing will be clearly marked on our subject and course pages. Sign up to become a Clearing VIP and get updates, and exclusive info straight to your inbox.
Head to your course page to check specific entry requirements. During Clearing, we often take a more flexible, student-focused approach to admissions and will consider each application on an individual basis.
If you have no offers by 30 June, no longer wish to accept an offer, or haven't met your offer conditions, you should be eligible for Clearing. Check in your UCAS Hub for the 'add Clearing choice' option. If you haven’t made a UCAS application by 30 June, you will need to set up an account in the UCAS Hub.
Research the different courses available. If you need assistance or want advice, sign up to become a Clearing VIP and get a 1-2-1 call with a Clearing advisor and a reserved spot at our July Online Open Day. Keep your options open and explore different subjects - you don’t have to stick to your original plan.
Once you’ve found a course (or courses) you're interested in, gather your qualifications and grades (A-level, BTEC, and GCSE Maths and English) as well as your UCAS ID – you'll need these when you make your application. Use the UCAS tariff calculator to work out your achieved tariff points.
We’ll confirm your offer by email, outlining the next steps to accept your place. Be sure to add ask@herts.ac.uk to your contact list to avoid important updates ending up in your junk!
To accept your offer, select Herts as your ‘Clearing choice’ in your UCAS Hub by the deadline in your offer email. Once this shows on your ‘Choices’ page, you’re on your way to becoming a Herts student! We’ll verify your results and keep in touch over email, guiding you through enrolment and assisting you in securing accommodation.
Yes, absolutely! If you’re joining us through Clearing, you can still apply for student finance to help cover tuition fees and living costs as normal. Visit the official gov.uk website for full guidance and to apply.
You can apply for student finance as soon as you have an offer, no need to wait! Just update your course details later if needed. The earlier you apply, the better.
If you have already made your student finance application but are changing your course or university choice, you'll need to let SFE (Student Finance England) know, and they will update your application.
Our bursary scheme helps make the everyday costs of university life such as books, travel, and living expenses easier. Check to see if you are eligible for a bursary. These can make a real difference.
We offer a range of non-repayable scholarships to celebrate academic success, talent, or personal achievements. Check to see what scholarships are available and if you are eligible.
You'll receive an email from us within 48 hours of submitting your application, often sooner! Ensure you add ask@herts.ac.uk to your contact list so you don’t miss our email. Also check your spam/junk folders just in case.
Absolutely! You can still submit an application for on-campus accommodation if you apply through Clearing. We guarantee** accommodation in your first year, with a variety of rooms to suit all budgets - bills included. Explore our accommodation options.
We’d love you to explore our campus! You can book a campus tour or visit our undergraduate events page to see upcoming Open Days and events.
