| This Level 7 module is designed to enable physiotherapists, podiatrists, therapeutic radiographers and paramedics to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes to demonstrate a critical, evidence-based approach to safe, appropriate and cost-effective practice as an independent/supplementary prescriber, in partnership with members of the multi-disciplinary prescribing team.
Students will be facilitated in the review and analysis of systematic approaches to assessment and diagnosis, drug actions and the use of evidence-based sources to inform prescribing practice, including the decision not to prescribe. The legal and professional frameworks underpinning prescribing practice will be evaluated to ensure governance of their prescribing practice and promote safe and accountable practice in team members.

| This Level 7 module is designed to enable diagnostic radiographers and dietitians to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes to undertake safe, appropriate and cost-effective supplementary prescribing practice in partnership with patients, carers and members of the multi-disciplinary prescribing team.
Students will be facilitated in the review and analysis of systematic approaches to assessment and diagnosis, drug actions and the use of evidence-based sources to inform prescribing practice, including the decision not to prescribe. The legal and professional frameworks underpinning prescribing practice will be evaluated to ensure governance of their prescribing practice and promote safe and accountable practice in team members.
The module involves a blended learning approach incorporating the University's managed learning environment, Canvas. Inter-professional learning occurs with prescribing students from independent prescribing students from a physiotherapist, paramedic, therapeutic radiographer or podiatrist background, pharmacist, nursing and midwifery prescribing students. |

| This module will examine the epistemology of research, the principles and history of ethical research and a critical analysis of how it is used in practice. Key aspects of content will address concepts of rigour and trustworthiness in assessment which involves patient narratives, as well as methods of increasing reliability, validity and standardising direct measurement techniques in relation to an assessment protocol, research or audit tool. The emphasis throughout this module will be on the use and relevance of research skills to practitioners seeking to assess, improve or evaluate services. The module will harness students existing personal and life skills and knowledge of care as a basis for developing learning that is relevant and focussed on their practice needs and stage of professional development. |

| This Level 7 module is designed to enable nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and attributes to demonstrate a critical, evidence-based approach to safe, appropriate and cost-effective practice as an independent/supplementary prescriber, in partnership with members of the multi-disciplinary prescribing team.
Students will be facilitated in the critical review and analysis of systematic approaches to assessment and diagnosis, drug actions and the use of evidence-based sources to inform prescribing practice, including the decision not to prescribe. The legal and professional frameworks underpinning prescribing practice will be analysed critically to ensure governance of their prescribing practice and promote safe and accountable practice in team members.

| The aim of this module is to enable students to continue to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills of leadership, education and professional development.
The module enables students to critically review leadership within the context of the advanced practice role, to understand the leaning and teaching approaches that support clinical development and to evaluate strategies to support and develop themselves and others. |

| This is a 15 credit Level 7 module that enables the student to build upon previous knowledge and experience. The module facilitates development of a critical understanding of the relevant anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, diagnostic tests, equipment and procedures enabling effective clinical examination and comprehensive assessment and triage of patients. It is recognised that students will be familiar with the concepts addressed, but this module will ensure that students are equipped with enhanced knowledge, understanding and skills congruent with the demands of advanced practice. It will enable students to develop skills in clinical decision making, clinical reasoning, forming differential diagnoses and care planning. |
| Lower Quadrant - Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy | 30 Credits | Optional |
| The module focuses on research informed assessment and management of patients with lower quadrant musculoskeletal dysfunction. There is emphasis on advanced clinical reasoning and physical examination, to select, justify and evaluate management strategies.
The learner is expected to undertake independent study both to supplement their learning and to broaden their individual knowledge and understanding of the subject.
Students will be encouraged to utilise self-evaluation and reflection on their own and others' practice and actively engage in evaluation of relevant research to facilitate transformative physiotherapy practice.
This module may be studied as a stand-alone module for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development.
Students who undertake this module should be:
Qualified Physiotherapists with BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy or equivalent physiotherapy qualification with current HCPC (or equivalent) registration.
Have at least one year's post-qualification experience in a musculoskeletal physiotherapy setting and have a relevant caseload of patients. |
| Upper Quadrant - Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy | 30 Credits | Optional |
| The module focuses on research informed assessment and management of patients with upper quadrant musculoskeletal dysfunction. There is emphasis on advanced clinically reasoned biopsychosocial assessment and management, to develop holistic, patient-centred care.
The learner is expected to undertake independent study both to supplement their learning and to broaden their individual knowledge and understanding of the subject.
Students will be encouraged to utilise self-evaluation and reflection on their own and others' practice, and actively engage in evaluation of relevant research, to facilitate transformative physiotherapy practice.

| Therapeutics of Skin Conditions | 30 Credits | Optional |
| This module aims to develop and consolidate understanding of the skills, knowledge and attributes required for safe, and effective treatment of people with dermatological conditions. Successful completion will provide a deeper knowledge and understanding of the pharmacokinetics of topical and systemic treatments used to treat skin disease. Students will gain an increased understanding of key factors to consider when choosing treatment options including risk, cost, evidence about efficacy, disease severity, and patient's response to treatment, including potential adverse effects.
The module will develop and enhance communication skills to formulate effective patient centred treatment options for a range of dermatology conditions whilst focusing on specialist knowledge of systemic and topical drug therapies used to treat skin diseases. |
| Mind and Skin | 30 Credits | Optional |
| This module will examine the impact of skin disease on mental health and wellbeing and the association between mental health and wellbeing and a range of skin conditions. In this context it will evaluate psychological interventions that can be effectively used non-specialist practitioners to support people affected by skin disease and evaluate the evidence underpinning their use in clinical practice. Clinical experts in the field will introduce students to a range of practical techniques that can be incorporated into everyday practice to promote wellbeing and better quality of life. The module will provide students opportunity to examine how interpersonal skills can be used to promote therapeutic communication with individuals with skin disease and encourage them to reflect on their personal experience of providing support for patients with skin disease and mental health problems. |
