Zaimah is an Operations Specialist at Shell in Malaysia where her role involves taking care of retail clients and commercial fuels.

‘My goal right now is to be in a position at Shell where I can grow and take on new challenges over time. Ultimately, I would like to assume more management responsibilities and get involved in product and customer strategy. Some of the most innovative thinkers in the industry work here in Shell and that is a big reason why I am building a career here!’

Life at Herts

‘My studies made me mentally and emotionally prepared for a career life. What we learned in University may not be the same when it comes to working life, so I took the opportunity to work part-time in the food and beverage industry. It might not sound like a big deal but it really boosted my confidence in thinking diligently about what customers want and need. Most importantly my communication skills have levelled up in many ways since English is not my first language.’

‘My favourite memory was when I was elected to be a Vice-President in the Malaysian Society. Being a food lover myself, the committee and I decided to hold a gathering amongst Malaysians which was called Jom Makan 1.0. We cooked our own local dishes and played games to entertain Malaysian students that night. I must admit that I had the best team to make the event a very successful one!’

Advice for other students

Zaimah's advice to both prospective and current students is to, ‘Grab every single opportunity that comes your way! Do not put a limit on yourself, be an excellent team player, stay humble and you will shine.'
