Technology Supported Learning Research Group
The Technology Supported Learning Research Group comprises a group of academics who have supported research for over 10 years in the development of pedagogy and learning technologies to enhance the student digital learning experience.
Three members of the Group from the School of Computer Science, Dr Trevor Barker, Dr Martina Doolan and Prof Amanda Jefferies are UK National Teaching Fellows, which is a national award for excellence in teaching and learning.
In addition all of the above and 2 other members of the group Steve Bennett and Dr Guy Saward contributed their technology supported learning expertise to the University's Blended Learning Unit, which was a HEFCE funded Centre of Excellence at the University of Hertfordshire from 2005 to 2010. Additional members of the group include Dr Mariana Lilley, Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching and Andrew Pyper, both of whom specialise in online learning and the student experience.’
Members of the group have directed JISC-funded projects as part of the national E-Learning Programme and Assessment and Feedback research. The growing research base reflects the importance of the student digital experience and explores the impact of virtual learning environments in HE, adaptive and accessible technologies for both online and on-campus learners, and the pedagogy and practice of blended learning approaches.
PhD Research with the Technology Supported Learning Research Group
We welcome proposals from prospective PhD students who seek to investigate the blending of technology with learning within the e-learning arena. Potential topics could include but are not limited to:
- The design of online learning environments
- Online assessment and user authentication
- Human factors in e-learning
- Accessibility issues surrounding the use of online learning
- Developing digital literacy
- Student experiences of online learning
