Open day travel offers

We know how important it is to visit the universities you're interested in. The University of Hertfordshire offers a range of discounts to help with travel to our Open Day.

Free car parking
Parking is free across our campuses, and there's a free shuttle bus between College Lane and de Havilland so you can explore them both with ease on the day. The satnav postcode is AL10 9AB for College Lane Campus and AL10 9EU for de Havilland Campus.
You'll check in for the Open Day at College Lane and can either take the shuttle bus or drive the short distance to de Havilland.
A limited number of electric charging points are available in Car Park B on our College Lane Campus - these will be signposted on the day. Please note that there is a charge for this service.
Disabled parking spaces are available on both of our campuses, located in car park B at College Lane and in marked bays in car park Dh1 on De Havilland. Please ensure your blue badge is displayed for the duration of your visit.
Free bus travel
Open Day attendees can travel for free across our UNO bus network for the whole journey or to access our campuses from Hatfield and St Albans train stations. Just book your place and you'll receive a travel voucher for you and up to two guests for the return journey. Please show the voucher to the bus driver to claim your free travel.
Popular bus routes include:
- 341 & 641 Hatfield - Hertford - Broxbourne
- 601 Borehamwood - Hatfield - Welwyn Garden City
- 602 Watford - Shenley - London Colney - St Albans - Hatfield
- 610 & 621 Cockfosters - Potters Bar - Hatfield - Luton
- 614 & 644 Hatfield - Barnet - Queensbury
- 635 Watford - Hatfield - Hitchin
- 653 New Greens - St Albans - Hatfield
Hatfield is the nearest train station for the University - jump on either the 341, 602, 614, 644, 641 or 653 UNO buses and be on campus in 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can cycle in 10-15 minutes or walk in 30 minutes.
Getting between campuses couldn’t be simpler either. If you don’t fancy the 15 minute walk, then our shuttle buses will take you. For free!

Car mileage reimbursement
We will reimburse mileage on return car journeys of more than a total of 90 miles to attend our Open Day on 27 April 2024, up to the value of £100.
The reimbursement is available to all visitors.
Terms and Conditions:
1. Eligibility
  The University of Hertfordshire Open Day Travel Reimbursement Scheme is only open to visitors who are resident in the United Kingdom and will cover the mileage cost to travel by car from your home address to the University of Hertfordshire’s College Lane Campus, up to the value of £100.
  We will use the AA Route Planner to check the number of miles (as the crow flies) between your registered address and the University of Hertfordshire’s College Lane Campus.
  To be eligible for a travel reimbursement, you'll need to meet all of the following criteria:
  be resident in the United Kingdom;
  be an attendee of the University of Hertfordshire 27 April 2024 Open Day; and
  we must receive your application for reimbursement by Saturday 18 May 2024.
  If successful in your application, you will be expected to pay for the full cost of your travel, and then the University of Hertfordshire will reimburse you for your eligible costs.
2. What method of travel is not accepted?
  The University of Hertfordshire Open Day Travel Reimbursement Scheme will only cover travel by car (mileage only). Any other form of travel is not covered.
  Alternatively, we do provide a free return bus ticket on the UNO bus network for you and your guests attending the University of Hertfordshire Open Day.
3. How to apply
  Book your place for the Open Day by completing this form. Following the event, you'll be sent an email containing the travel reimbursement form to claim your car mileage.
  
  Notification of application outcomes will be communicated via email within two (2) weeks of submission. Eligible applicants will receive refunds via bank transfer.
4. How much could I get?
  We will reimburse your total eligible mileage at a rate of £0.20 per mile, up to a maximum amount of £100.
5. How and when will I be paid?
  Once your application has been processed, you will receive a direct payment into the bank account provided in your application. This process can take up to thirty (30) days as standard, but please note that reimbursements may take longer during university closures such as public holidays. If you have not received your payment within such a period, please get in touch with us.
6. How do we store your data?
  The information provided on the application form will be held on a secure database and made available only to University of Hertfordshire staff who require such access to carry out their roles. Information provided on the application form will not be used for any other purpose, nor shared with third parties.
  By submitting your details, you consent to the University of Hertfordshire holding the information provided for at least thirty (30) days in order to process your payment. Please be assured that we will treat your information with the utmost care in accordance with relevant data protection legislation and the University of Hertfordshire's policy on data protection, which is available to view on our website.
  Once your payment is processed your application form will be removed from our system permanently. All application forms (including unsuccessful applications) will be deleted after all applications have been processed and payments made as set out above.
