Module Credits Compulsory/optional Advanced Character Performance 30 Credits Compulsory In Advanced Character Performance you will be supported to create performance material informed by research. Through a short series of lectures and workshops, you will engage with the principal, complex, elements of character creation. For example: methods for analysing character; character decisions; playing choices; development of inner and outer characteristics; playing characters within context of their world and meanings; coherent stylistic and interpretive performance of character. You will be encouraged to work independently to create performance material using a variety of mediums to convey a character. This could be through song, acting, dance, duologue, small scene or physical performance. You will be supported to create a new world and environment for an original character. A performance will take place toward the end of the module that will showcase your developed work. Planning New Theatrical Work 30 Credits Compulsory In Planning New Theatrical Work, you will be enabled to explore and implement the skills and documentation required to put together plans for your own performance concept. Through a series of lecture-seminars, supervised study, and independent study you will be introduced to funding streams through commercial and subsidised income models; business models; securing performance rights; selecting appropriate venues; expenses of a theatre production (personal); complex expenses such as licences, royalty pools and box office splits; expenses of equipment hire vs purchase. The primary source of income for many theatre performances is through the sale of tickets, therefore you will be encouraged to explore appropriate and innovative advertising and marketing methods and analyse current market trends. You will be encouraged to work independently to realise professional documentation required to plan your own show concept. Final Major Project Performing Arts - HRC 60 Credits Compulsory In this module you will have the opportunity to work in a group to create a new original performance. You will be supported to work collectively to bring one vision together from the selected pitch concept showing an analytical approach to the concept assigned. You will be encouraged to support the one vision with a range of research and relevant sources to support theatrical and creative decisions. During the process of planning, you will be directed to collectively select genres, themes, style and linear or non-leaner approaches to the concept. You will be encouraged to work independently on your assigned production requirements. You will perform in a performance that could take place on more than one night during a performance run. Lectures and workshops at the start of the module will support you in the overall process of putting on a show ; this could include the exploration of genres, theatrical concepts, social contexts or history alongside the practical requirements for producing, staging and performing a theatrical piece.
