Marriage and Civil Partnership

Studying and working at the University

Is the University only concerned about equality for people who are married?

The Equality Act provides legal protection from unlawful treatment in employment for married people and civil partners only.

In our Equality and Diversity Policy and our Policy to Promote Dignity and Respect we commit to fair treatment of everyone, regardless of marital or civil partnership status.

Does the University monitor the marital/civil partnership status of current students or staff?

If there are any occasions when this information is required, the request will be made in such a way that you do not have to disclose your sexual orientation.

The University will consider if collecting data on marriage/civil partnership is necessary to meet the Equality Duty.
