Postgraduate Research Experience Survey 2019

The University of Hertfordshire has been ranked 21st in the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2019 for overall student satisfaction in research degree programmes

PRES is the only UK higher education sector-wide survey that gains insight from postgraduate research students about their learning and supervision experience. The survey focuses on supervision, resources, research community, progress and assessment, and skills and professional development.

The 2019 results are based on 103 institutions with over 50,000 respondents and saw the University ranking in the top quarter for seven out of eight of the questions.

Our individual research degree programmes also performed well, with Business and Economics ranking 1st out of 47 institutions for overall satisfaction, and Education ranking 1st out of 32  for Research culture and 1st out of 33 for Research skills.

Our global ranking results are excellent, displaying further progress from the very good results obtained in the last PRES we entered in 2017. In particular our overall global ranking is 21st out of 103 which is outstanding, and then it gets better with the research culture being ranked at 4th out of 103. I am delighted that our research students very much value the overall support and also commend the research culture at the University as we continue our focus on providing an outstanding student experience here. The Research Tutors, Associate Deans for Research and supervisory staff in our Academic Schools are to be congratulated together with Dr Susan Grey and her team in the Doctoral College who are all doing a brilliant job.
