Veterinary science
The School of Life and Medical Sciences has a number of staff engaged in veterinary science research.
This work is varied and includes that related to livestock diseases, the pharmacology of veterinary drugs, the environmental fate of veterinary medicines and work related to understanding and mitigating the climate change impacts of livestock production.
For example, studies have been undertaken by Dr Madhu Goyal concerned with the control of Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis using the Mycobacterium bovis BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin).
Pharmacological studies have been undertaken on various veterinary drugs including netobimin and ivermectin and AERU’s Veterinary Substance Database provides researchers, regulators and industry with state-of-the-art data on the environmental fate and toxicity of veterinary medicines and feed additives.
Other related studies have been for policy development and include those evaluating livestock systems with respect to their potential contribution to climate change and risks for soil and water pollution.
