We asked Charlie...

What is your current role and how did you get to this point in your career?

I sell high-end luxury property in the Los Angeles area.

How did your studies at the University of Hertfordshire help shape your career?

My studies provided me with the opportunity to interact and communicate with a wide number of individuals from all backgrounds and experiences. I learnt how to be self-sufficient, motivated and pursue all opportunities for growth.

What made you decide to study at this University?

I chose Hertfordshire due to the opportunities to study abroad and its close connections to London. I was also drawn to the architectural beauty of the de Havilland campus, and the large selection of on-campus housing.

What was the best or most useful thing about your course?

The most useful thing about my course was the wide array of module choices, allowing me to tailor my course to my specific needs and interest in journalism and PR.

What is your stand-out memory from your time at the University?

The stand out memories are my year abroad at California State University Long Beach, and graduating with a 1st class Honours at St Albans Cathedral.

Are you still in contact with friends you met at the University of Hertfordshire?

I still keep in touch with my friends from the University and we get together whenever I am back in the United Kingdom. I was lucky enough to study abroad with a course-mate, and for that I am incredibly grateful. The experience made us very close as we helped each other grow and we shared a lot of amazing adventures. Whenever we catch up we always reminisce about all the fantastic times we had at both Hertfordshire and CSULB.

What advice would you give your younger self if you were starting at the University tomorrow?

The advice I would give myself is to enjoy every moment, and make the most of the experience. The whole experience will fly by, so it's crucial to savour the small things!

Do you have any advice for University of Hertfordshire graduates who are considering a career in your industry?

Work, work and work! You really only get out of this industry what you put in. You should always maintain a positive attitude, get as much experience as you can and have a willingness to do any task thrown your way.

What are your future career plans / ambitions?

I strive to work as hard as possible now, so that I am able to achieve a lifestyle that allows me to split my time 50/50 between Beverly Hills and the UK. In terms of ambitions, the perfect situation would be to develop a client base that trusts and refers me to others. A referral is the ultimate stamp of approval! I hope to become a specialist in a particular area - whether that be English cottage-style homes or luxury condominiums, I am not sure yet! Right now I’m just immersing myself in every opportunity.
