Sustainable communities

The University of Hertfordshire recognises that creating a sustainable future requires collaboration, partnership and shared responsibility.

As an anchor institution within Hertfordshire and the wider region, our influence extends beyond our campuses. Through engagement with students, staff, local communities, businesses and partner organisations, we seek to create positive environmental and social impact whilst supporting sustainable development.

Our engagement programme provides opportunities to learn, share, participate and take action on sustainability issues, helping to build a community united by a common purpose and commitment to positive change.

Creating a sustainable University community

Sustainability is not delivered by policies and infrastructure alone. It is shaped by the actions, ideas and contributions of people. The University is committed to creating a culture where sustainability is understood, valued and embedded within everyday decision-making.

Through awareness campaigns, engagement activities, volunteering opportunities and collaborative projects, students and staff are encouraged to play an active role in supporting the University’s sustainability ambitions. By working together, we can reduce environmental impacts, strengthen communities and create lasting positive change.
