About the School of Creative Arts

The School of Creative Arts is home to an international community of artists and thinkers. Here, talent is nurtured, skills are advanced, and creative industries are connected with the next generation of visionaries and creatives.

We are ranked one of the best Creative Arts schools in the world – placed 1st in the UK and 16th globally (The Rookies, 2024). Our courses span film, media, design, visual arts, music, art therapy, English, history, philosophy and politics. All are taught by practicing professionals, with many shaped through collaboration with partners such as Warner Bros, Sony, Prada, Gymshark and Elstree Studios. Students tackle live briefs and projects that develop skills, build portfolios and open doors to global careers.

We support ambition with the latest technology, including 3D printers, a motion capture studio, a construction and carving workshop, jewellery benches, sound control rooms, darkrooms and post-production suites.

By joining us, you’ll become part of a collaborative community where creativity is refined and celebrated through exhibitions, performances and publications. With over 150 years of innovation, we continue to forge global partnerships, graduate world-class talent and shape the future of the creative industries.

Courses

From film and fashion to music, design, art therapy and humanities, Creative Arts courses at Herts are built on industry collaboration and taught by professionals. Live briefs, placements and projects with global names like Warner Bros, Sony and Prada ensure graduates leave with standout portfolios and career-ready skills.

For business

We work closely with businesses across the creative industries on projects, live briefs and collaborations. This gives our students the opportunity to gain invaluable, real-world experience in their field and develop professional skills. The businesses we work with also benefit from fresh perspectives and new ideas.

Research

Our research covers creative technologies, media and humanities, making an impact locally and globally. From contemporary arts and literature to politics, history, philosophy and design, we bring together creativity and critical insight to challenge ideas, shape culture and influence how people see and engage with the world.
