You’ll study within a specialist postgraduate film production environment, working alongside students in directing, cinematography, screenwriting and editing. This shared creative culture reflects how productions operate in the industry, giving you hands-on experience of professional workflows and collaborative filmmaking.

Practical production sits at the heart of the course. You’ll produce multiple projects and work directly with professional actors through workshops and filmed productions. You’ll have access to industry-quality post-production systems and the university’s unique film and television oral history archive.

What will I study?

The MA Film Producing is delivered full-time over one academic year, beginning in September. You’ll study across two days per week, combining practical filmmaking with academic research and industry-focused learning. Teaching takes place through lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and independent study, mainly face to face with some hybrid delivery where appropriate. Assessment is 100% coursework, including practical projects, presentations and written work.

You’ll explore ideas in lectures and seminars before developing them in practice-based workshops, often working with professional actors. Modules focus on pitching, development and industry context, helping you shape ideas into viable productions. Alongside this, you’ll build strong research skills, deepening your understanding of film styles, technology, finance, audiences and the wider industry.

The course culminates in a major project, here you bring together your creative, research and production skills to deliver a substantial film project that meets professional standards and strengthens your portfolio.
