Herts Experiential Learning Portfolio

Welcome to Herts Experiential Learning Portfolio (H.E.L.P)

We know that it is vital for all our students in the law school to gain practical experiences and relevant skills to improve their employability. We have therefore devised a wide range of projects and activities they can get involved with during their time at UH. We divide these opportunities into Real World Learning (sometimes known as pro bono) where each project involves advising or assisting members of the public in some way with real problems and issues; and Student Enrichment Activities (also known as co-curriculars) which are based on campus and focus more on improving practical skills for students using realistic, but fictional scenarios.

The range of opportunities ensures whatever career our students wish to pursue, they will be prepared. Many of the projects also allow them to interact and network with external partners – giving them the chance to make contacts for work experience and even jobs.

Students learn more about the opportunities during their induction each year they are with us, and we try to add new activities each academic year, but you can get a flavour of the sort of experiences currently available through these links:

We also take employability very seriously for our students and they get a huge amount of support and advice – both from the UH central careers team and our own School Employability Lead.

If you are a member of the public and need access to free legal advice and support, check out our page FREE legal advice & support for more details.

For an overview of just a few of the activities our students have been involved with recently please view our latest Herts Experiential Learning Annual Report 2023/24.
