Real world learning
Hertfordshire Law School offers a wide range of Real World Learning projects so students have the opportunity to get involved with a variety of different types of volunteering work during their studies.
What will I gain from volunteering?
You will get a chance to learn and develop relevant practical skills such as interviewing; carrying out legal research; case analysis; legal drafting; and presenting. Working with real clients on real issues enhances the valuable skills employers seek, such as listening, problem-solving and giving objective advice.
You can also boost your confidence and communication skills through interviewing and presentations.
Volunteering applies your academic knowledge to real world situations, deepening your understanding of social justice and legal practice. You'll gain confidence in working with clients, making you stand out to future employers. This hands-on experience exposes you to a range of legal issues, which can offer fresh perspectives on career paths. They enable you to demonstrate your commitment to a legal career and developing essential workplace skills like teamwork and communication.
You'll work alongside leading local law firms, local & national charities, and other organisations in the legal sector like HMP The Mount.
How can I participate?
All current Hertfordshire Law School students can participate in Real World Learning projects. We offer a variety of opportunities each year which you can choose from to match your interests and commitment level, allowing you to balance studies, work and personal life.
After applying and being selected, you'll be given training sessions to attend before participating and other resources (like handbooks) to support you.
