Examine the relationship between crime and the societies we inhabit. "Making Murderers? The Sociology of Homicide" offers a sociological lens on the study of murder and homicide. Dr. Arndt Emmerich, a cultural sociologist, will explore how sociologists analyse this most serious crime, examining its prosecution and societal context. Through case studies, including serial killers, this masterclass reveals how sociological theories explain homicide and deviant behaviour.
Dr Emmerich is Programme Leader and Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Hertfordshire. He was a Research Fellow at University of Heidelberg and Oxford as well as the Max Planck Institute. Dr Emmerich holds an MPhil and DPhil from the University of Oxford and a BA in Sociology from the University of Essex.
