Corporate governance and structure

The University is regulated by the Office for Students (OfS) established as the regulator of the English higher education under the provisions of the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 (HERA).

The University’s objectives, powers and the institutional framework are set by the Articles of Government, which requires the establishment of a Board of Governors and an Academic Board; each with clearly defined functions and responsibilities.

The Board of Governors is the University’s governing body. Members are from a wide variety of sectors and industries such as local government, business, pharmaceuticals, finance, and higher education. Led by the Chief Executive, the Vice-Chancellor, the Board of Governors are responsible for overseeing the strategic organisation, direction and management of the University.

The Academic Board is responsible for maintaining high-quality teaching standards and research work, which is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and includes members of staff and students from the University.

As members of the University Alliance, we are leaders in technical education, professional training, research and development, enterprise, and innovation. We are also members of Universities UK (UUK).
