In September 2026, Hertfordshire Medical School will welcome its first cohort onto a new five-year undergraduate medical degree, leading to a Medicine MBBS and delivered with support from City St George’s, University of London.
Initially the MBBS degree will be available to international students only, with plans to open to UK fee-paying students soon after. With a longstanding reputation in medical sciences, ranked in the top 10% nationally (National Student Survey, 2024), Herts is well-positioned to address the growing demand in this field.
A Medicine MBBS at Herts will be taught through a combination of lectures, small group sessions, and clinical teaching. The course features a hybrid of case-based and problem-based learning, along with comprehensive clinical skills and simulation training. You'll have the chance to intercalate during your studies, earning an additional qualification. A key highlight of the course is the opportunity to engage with patients and participate in clinical placements as early as your first year
You’ll combine lectures and small group teaching with hands-on clinical experience from year one. Case-based and problem-based learning, clinical skills training and simulation will help you build confidence early, with the option to intercalate and gain an additional qualification.
With teaching from experienced clinicians and strong NHS partnerships across the East of England, you’ll gain practical experience in a range of settings and graduate ready for modern medical practice.
