Business and Digital Research Group
The Business and Digital Research Group (BDRG) was formed in November 2024 and is part of Hertfordshire Business School.
The group is dedicated to advancing knowledge at the intersection of business and digital transformation. We do this through interdisciplinary research, collaboration, and innovation. We aim to explore the evolving impact of digital technologies on business strategies, operations, and policies. Our group values are open membership, diversity, respect and resources.
This group’s primary research expertise includes, but is not limited to, business related research, which includes:
- entrepreneurship
- social sciences

- digital transformation
- artificial intelligence (AI)
- responsible innovation
- digital inclusion
- ethics
all within the broad context of Business and Digital Research.
Our research spans sectors and disciplines such as healthcare, operations management, supply chain, and education, with the aim of addressing business and digital research that require a diverse skill set from a wide range of disciplines.

Our vision is to be a recognised centre of excellence where research and teaching are deeply interconnected. We bring together doctoral students, early-career researchers, and established academics in a collaborative culture that supports professional development, fosters innovation, and builds research capacity across all levels.
We aim to:
- produce internationally excellent and world-leading research that contributes to 3* and 4* REF outputs
- foster an inclusive, supportive research environment that nurtures academic talent and wellbeing
- translate research into research-informed teaching and learning, enriching student experience and equipping learners with the critical and digital skills needed for contemporary business practice
- involve students in live research projects and knowledge exchange activities, supporting authentic learning and employability
- engage externally with industry, policymakers, and communities to co-create impactful knowledge with real-world relevance
- contribute meaningfully to the University of Hertfordshire’s strategic goals and its REF ambitions by linking academic excellence with social, economic, and pedagogic value
- champion a research culture through our integrated approach that informs, educates, and empowers — shaping business and digital futures both inside and beyond the classroom.
How we operate
Members of the group include scholars active in disciplines such as economics, finance, strategy, management, business analytics and project management, whose work includes:
- research collaboration - bringing together academics, industry experts, and policymakers
- working groups - dedicated teams focusing on key research areas
- seminars and workshops - engaging with experts to discuss emerging trends
- grant and funding applications - securing resources to advance research projects.
