Water and environment

The Water and Environment Research Group (TWE) in the Subject Group of Geography and Environmental Sciences is a dynamic and active research group which has its focus on water and its importance to both natural and human environments.

The group embraces divergent research interests including:

  • Landscape resilience and water history
  • Glaciology; glacier hydrology and hydrochemistry; glacial ecosystems; SEM analysis of glacial sediments; design and construction of sub-glacial and field instrumentation
  • Mountain irrigation and development, with a focus on the impacts of hydro-electric power generation on traditional irrigation systems
  • Water resources problem-solving analysis, with a particular focus on drinking water quality, water usage, and consumer engagement
  • Fresh water ecology, urban river systems and the captive rearing of aquatic invertebrates
  • Water harvesting in India: Resilience and sustainability assessment in the face of population increase and climate change

Members of the group use interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary skills, tools and expertise to cover a range of topical local, national and international issues.
