Thrill-seeking experiences

Find your next thrill

If you’re drawn to adrenaline, challenge and high-energy experiences, there are plenty of ways to push yourself beyond the everyday. From campus-based activity and outdoor adventures to extreme sports and immersive London experiences, thrill-seeking is always within easy reach from the University of Hertfordshire.

Challenge yourself on campus

Thrill-seeking starts in Hertfordshire Sports Village on the de Havilland campus, where the indoor climbing wall offers a genuine vertical challenge. With routes of varying difficulty, you can test your confidence at height, build technique and push yourself further as you progress.

It’s a controlled environment that gives you the chance to experience something physically demanding and step outside your comfort zone without leaving campus.

Adrenaline experiences

Around Herts, the countryside quickly turns into an adventure playground, with high-energy experiences all within easy reach of Hatfield. At Go Ape Trent Park (around 40 minutes by train and bus), you’ll scramble across rope bridges and zip through the treetops, high above the forest floor.

For a bigger rush, Lee Valley White Water Centre throws you straight into Olympic-grade rapids. Closer to campus, Fairlands Valley in Stevenage hosts a buzzing summer aqua park, packed with slides and inflatable obstacles. For speed on dry land, Teamworks Karting in nearby Letchworth delivers tight corners and fast-paced competition.

Extreme experiences in London

From rooftop climbs to high-speed water rides, this is the capital at full intensity.

Up at The O2 lets you climb across the roof of one of London’s most recognisable venues, suspended above the skyline with panoramic views stretching across Canary Wharf and the River Thames. It’s part climb, part city adventure and completely different after dark.

At ArcelorMittal Orbit, in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East London, drop into the UK’s longest tunnel slide, twisting and spiralling back to ground level at speed.

For something even faster, Thames Rockets, departing from the London Eye Pier on the South Bank, launches you down the Thames on a high-speed powerboat ride where sharp turns, loud music and full-throttle acceleration transform the river into an adrenaline course through the centre of London.

Action-packed challenges

Sometimes the biggest rush comes from the adrenaline of trying to beat everyone else in the room.

At Boom Battle Bar Watford, just minutes from Watford Junction station, you can take on axe throwing, augmented reality darts, shuffleboard and competitive games in a loud, high-energy setting built for groups and social nights out.

In Letchworth, Agent Brains Escape Room throws you into immersive, themed rooms where you’ll race against the clock solving puzzles, cracking codes and working under pressure to escape before time runs out.

For a more physical challenge, Gravity MAX Wandsworth, in South West London, combines trampolines, obstacle-style activities, arcade gaming and interactive experiences inside one huge entertainment venue designed for all-action group competition.
