Meet Siraj Al Islam who is Managing Partner at one 2 one legal LLP - a Saudi / English legal joint venture that operates as a boutique law firm specialising in corporate transactional investment advice.

University life and experience

Siraj came to the University of Hertfordshire through Clearing after speaking to the Dean of School, Penny Carey, on the Clearing hotline. After speaking to Penny, Siraj realised that our university was the place for him as he liked how Hertfordshire Law School was structured and the friendliness of the academic staff. This is something he experience throughout his studies as he says that the academic staff ‘were always open and approachable.’

While Saraj was studying at the University, Hertfordshire Law School was based on a different campus in St Albans. He says, ‘We had access everything a large University had to offer but is in a separate city, in one building made getting to know your colleagues well.’

He described his course as ‘only one of its kind at that time’ as the accelerated LLB programme allowed him to catch up on his gap year. However, he says, ‘The important aspect was that there was always an emphasis on practical legal application and not just covering the theoretical aspects of the law… It has formed the basis of my legal studies.’

Future aspirations

Siraj currently manages a Saudi / English legal joint venture that operates as a boutique law firm specialising in corporate transactional investment advice. He says, ‘I am exactly where I want to be professionally.’

However, in the future, he would like to focus on giving back to communities and start to work within human rights.
