About the School of Education

Ranked 1st in the UK for teacher training (Daily Mail University Guide, 2025) the University of Hertfordshire’s School of Education focuses on graduate success, preparing tomorrow’s educators to inspire learners and lead with confidence from day one.

Our curriculum is designed to be innovative, engaging and future-focused, with a strong emphasis on graduate outcomes and academic excellence. Students gain hands-on experience across early years, primary and secondary settings, including SEND and specialist environments, via our partnerships with hundreds of schools across 11 local authorities.

Students also benefit from regular industry talks and visits from educators, policymakers and school leaders, and have opportunities to contribute to curriculum innovation and outreach through participation in public workshops and lectures.

Our flexible routes into teaching, including university-led and School Direct pathways, support a range of professional goals.

Our research spans all phases of education and includes teacher education and pedagogy, educational leadership and policy, science education, inclusive and transnational education, and arts-informed, participatory research methods.

We welcome students from all backgrounds and are committed to widening participation and fostering an inclusive ethos.

Courses

The most effective way to learn to teach is through hands-on experience. Our courses place students in classrooms early and often, working alongside experienced professionals to build confidence and skills. Designed with input from schools and the education sector, each programme is practical and career-focused, ensuring graduates are ready to step into the profession.
