Disabled Students’ Allowance

If you're an undergraduate or postgraduate student with a disability, long-term health condition or learning difference that could affect your studies, you may be eligible for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA).

DSA is non-repayable funding provided by the UK Government to help remove barriers to learning. It’s designed to make sure you can fully take part in your course by supporting the additional study-related needs you may have because of your condition.

How you can use DSA

DSA can help pay for practical support and adjustments that help you to study. This includes specialist equipment or software, note-takers or interpreters, or travel costs related to your course.

DSA does not cover general living costs or disability-related expenses that are not directly linked to your studies.

Eligibility

You may be eligible if your academic experience is affected by a disability or ongoing health condition, including dyslexia, anxiety or depression, physical disabilities, sensory impairments or other long-term conditions.

How DSA is paid

Funding usually goes straight to the organisation providing the support or equipment you need. It isn’t based on household income and won’t affect your other benefits.

How to apply

You can apply for DSA when you apply for student finance. Find out more about the Disabled Student Allowance and how to apply on the Government website.

Questions and support

Our Student Wellbeing team can help answer your questions or discuss your support options. They can also talk through alternative support available if you are not eligible for DSA.
