A week in the life of a Tourism and Events Management student

Hey there! My name is Tyler, I hope to give some insight into what a week in my life studying BA (Hons) Tourism and Event Management course looks like. I am currently in my first year of university and love it here at the University of Hertfordshire; I enjoy my course, all the lecturers are so helpful, as well as the people I have met being super friendly and easy to get along with.

Monday

I begin my week with a delayed start most Mondays, for my lectures are 9-3 both Thursday and Friday. Majority of the time this allows me to give myself a little time to have a breather at the start of the week. I have a breakfast/lunch around 12pm then start my day, I like to get a gym session out the way before doing much else as it wakes my body up properly and prepares me for the day, by sticking in this schedule it allows me to maintain a steady routine. Then I get some work done for my course by either heading to the on-campus library (you get access to all the books you need for your course) or giving myself some time alone in my room, this I tend to do until 5/6pm where I will then whip up a meal to last me for the rest of the night, and keep me motivated to get a bit more progress completed with work.

Tuesday

Tuesday, I dedicate to my flat chores such as doing my laundry or cleaning my room, ensuring I wake up a bit earlier this day so I can get this out the way before noon. Once again, I will attend gym then crack down on a bit of work or assignments, I find I prefer to give myself evenings to relax and get some productivity done before I have my dinner. When I have a big research task that needs doing or even just extra research to help back up points I make in lecture or assignments, I find myself assigning evenings on Tuesdays as well though for I enjoy doing it.

Wednesday

This day, I see as the major social day for ‘Big Wednesdays’ are usually hosted at the forum (Uni Nightclub), meaning my group will meet up later on and catch the shuttlebus over to college lane (It’s free and much warmer than walking in the winter). However, I can’t just sit around and wait for this all day, I’ll ensure I make myself lunch and dinner then touch up on work once again, for I use the three days at the start of the week to do majority of it, you’ll soon find out why!

Thursday

Finally, the day my lectures begin, I have an early start at 7:30 or 8 depending how annoying I find my phone alarm. I tend to skip breakfast but every now and again will make myself a bowl of something, my lectures begin at 9am so must ensure I am ready for this (the walk only being 5 minutes is a blessing in the morning). This first lecture finishes at 11am giving us an hour break before the next, so, me and my course mates will pop to the galleria to grab subway or something quick, there is plenty of choice there. We then return and finish the rest of our lectures by 3pm. After this, I will go to the gym complete a session and return home for a quick dinner and relax.

Friday

This day plays out similarly to Thursday, if not entirely the same. Obviously, a different food though because the same one twice in a row would make my schedule too repetitive, it’s always nice to catchup with course mates though, making lunchbreaks much more enjoyable. After my productive hours end, I usually meet up with some friends to have a night-out either a casual spoons or down in St Albans/ Watford. Ending my University week on a positive note.

Saturday/Sunday

The weekend I work a part-time job on the side, to bring in a little extra income. This is why I get my work done at the beginning of my week as then I’m not concerned about upcoming deadlines or being behind. I enjoy having this routine as it allows me to stay relatively stress-free with finances and my course, overall enjoying it thoroughly.

I hope this gives a good insight of what a week in my life looks like here, I attempt to stick to this schedule as it keeps me motivated which I think is most important. If you have any further questions about anything, feel free to drop me a message on Unibuddy, I am more than happy to help.
