Global Academic Foundation

The University of Hertfordshire works with its Egyptian partner Global Academic Foundation (GAF) to deliver Hertfordshire degrees in Egypt under the international Branch Campus Law 162.

The 50 acre campus is located in the New Administrative Capital in Cairo and welcomed its first cohort of students in 2019. The campus has grown substantially since its launch and currently has over 5000 students across 24 academic programmes.

Students studying in Egypt follow programmes with the same learning outcomes as their UK colleagues and so they graduate with a UK degree but are based in Egypt. UH-GAF offers a range of programmes in the Schools of Business, Life and Medical Sciences, Health, Creative Arts, Humanities and Engineering and Computer Sciences. In addition to a range of internship opportunities locally, UH-GAF Students have the opportunity of spend a semester or a full academic year in UH in the UK through a study abroad exchange agreement.

Global Academic Foundation is a ground-breaking initiative, which provides a complete British education and experience, producing graduates who are attractive to major Egyptian, UK and international employers.

All programmes offered at UH-GAF have been through an extensive validation process at the Univesity of Hertfordshire.

Global Academic Foundation is committed to driving a knowledge-based and innovation-led academic model, thus contributing to transforming Egypt into the destination of choice when it comes to exceptional higher education. They aim to become one of the biggest hosts to multi-tiered international branch campuses, bringing to the New Capital of Egypt some of the best universities in the world.

The launch of the University of Hertfordshire’s branch in Egypt follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing branch campuses in Egypt between the UK's Minister for Higher Education and Industrial Strategy and Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Egypt’s Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research, in January 2018. Supported by Universities UK, the MoU follows sustained growth in UK-Egypt higher education partnerships which have increased substantially since the signing of a government to government MoU on education, research and innovation in 2015, which opened the doors to new opportunities.

The campus provides a modern and dynamic learning environment, featuring five large lecture theatres, multiple creative arts studios, and specialist facilities for various disciplines, including engineering, cybersecurity, physiotherapy, chemistry, molecular biology, and nutrition. It also includes dedicated skills laboratories and simulation suites designed to enhance practical learning and the overall student experience.

With a vibrant community and plenty of space for social interaction, the campus offers a welcoming and engaging environment for all students. The facilities span 22 buildings and include 32 classrooms, 12 laboratories, a football court, a tennis court, a multipurpose sports court, a gymnasium, a library, a cafeteria, and transportation services. Together, these facilities support academic excellence, practical skills development, physical well-being, and a rich student life.
