KTP benefits for businesses

For over 50 years, Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTPs) have been an impactful funding mechanism that businesses can use to accelerate their growth, increase productivity and unlock innovation challenges. Through KTPs, you can partner with a university to access academic expertise you may not have in-house. You will have access to world-leading academic experts and resources. The programme is heavily subsidised 50% or 67% grant from Innovate UK depending on your business size. For every £1 invested in a KTP you can expect £5.50 in economic benefits.

There is a dedicated team at Herts to help you deliver your project, and all IP generated resides with the company.

Why apply for a KTP?
There are a wide range of benefits gained by businesses who have taken part in the programme*:
- 65% had introduced new processes/practices
- 70% had improved existing products or services
- 57% had progressed new products/services to market
- 83% had already experienced or expected an increase in at least one of the following: productivity, profitability, employment and/or turnover
- 87% had improved their technical knowledge and skills
- 66% had improved their capability to introduce other performance enhancing practices
- 79% placed greater value on academic expertise and were now better able to engage with knowledge bases (i.e. universities or other research institutions)

Working with the University’s team helped us create a product that uses the latest technology to meet our clients’ needs, deploying artificial intelligence to increase the speed and success rate for identifying barcodes. The product has been so successful that product revenue rose by 20% within the first year of launch and we are continuing to see an uplift in profits. The success of the KTP with Herts has also seen us grow our team from 12 to 22 members of staff, with three members of the team a direct result of the KTP.
