Consultancy Physiology Lab
The laboratory supports both athlete testing and work with clinical populations, providing opportunities to explore how the body responds to exercise, training and recovery. Advanced equipment, including ergometers, gas analysers and blood lactate testing systems, supports the measurement of performance, physiological responses and adaptations to training over time.
PhD research in the laboratory explores fatigue resistance in elite cyclists and triathletes, helping to inform evidence-based approaches to training and recovery. The facility also features a Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator, supporting research into neurological function in both athletes and individuals with spinal cord injuries.
Students gain hands-on experience using the Bod Pod, a fast, non-invasive system that provides precise body composition analysis used in both academic study and performance monitoring. This practical experience helps connect teaching, research and real-world application within sport and exercise science.
