Computer Labs (Nexus)

Our Nexus computer labs are used for practical sessions across a range of health, medical and life sciences subjects. Students use specialist software for mapping, molecular modelling, data analysis and more, gaining hands-on experience with the digital tools used in professional research and practice.

The main computer lab in Nexus is a flexible teaching space used for workshops and practical sessions across multiple disciplines. Students from Geography, Environmental Management, Bioscience, Radiography, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Sports Science and Health and Social Care all use the lab as part of their studies.

Each workstation is equipped with specialist software including ArcGIS Pro and QGIS for mapping and spatial analysis, and VMD, PyMol and RasMol for molecular visualisation. These programmes are used to analyse real datasets, build 3D models and explore biological and environmental systems in detail.

The space is designed for hands-on learning, with tutors guiding students through tasks that mirror professional research and clinical practice. Whether analysing terrain data, modelling protein structures or mapping public health patterns, students gain direct experience using industry-standard equipment.
