Bayfordbury External Habitats
Bayfordbury's 100-acre field station gives students the opportunity to take part in ecological research while developing practical fieldwork skills across woodlands, grasslands and freshwater environments.
The site supports teaching, research, conservation and field-based learning across a diverse range of natural settings. Hands-on fieldwork includes flora and soil surveys, alongside the study of species such as birds, bats and mammals.
Opportunities for practical conservation range from woodland management at Hook's Grove to ecological monitoring at Bayfordbury Lake. The historic Clinton-Baker Pinetum, established in 1767, provides access to an extraordinary collection of conifer species, while long-term studies of plant diversity, wildlife populations and ecosystem health offer experience of the methods used by ecologists, environmental scientists and conservation professionals.
