Choosing Herts

Archie was drawn to Herts due to the strong reputation of the Hertfordshire Business School and recommendations from friends ‘I'd heard about the university’s supportive and high-quality teaching environment, and the campus was full of everything I needed, a gym, a great library, and a good choice of places to eat’.

‘I really enjoyed my marketing course, there was a good blend of creativity, analytical thinking and hands-on learning and I made lots of friends.’ ‘After experiencing the challenges of studying during the pandemic I was grateful for the opportunity to fully engage with campus life and make use of the facilities available in my final year’.

His Career

Archie is currently a Press Officer in the Communications and PR team at Renault Group UK. ‘In my role, I manage the press fleet, coordinating with journalists, influencers and other media to facilitate test drives, reviews and comparisons of new vehicles. My responsibilities also extend to the activation and events side of the business. Being part of Renault Group means that these responsibilities are shared across Renault, Dacia and Alpine and the three brands work as part of the same family meaning my role is hugely varied’.

Archie believes that his academic experiences at Herts provided him with a strong theoretical foundation in communications, which has been instrumental to his role. ‘I completed a placement year, which gave me invaluable industry experience in automotive marketing. Both my degree and placement year put me in a strong position when applying for this graduate role at Renault’.

Future ambitions and advice

Going forward, Archie would love to develop his career within the automotive industry. ‘Whilst my degree was in Marketing, I'd like to get to a point in my career where I am in a senior position covering multiple departments and fully understand the industry’.

Archie’s advice to current and future students is to ‘make the absolute most of all the resources available to you at Herts. Every tutor and lecturer I reached out to for help and advice was more than happy to help. If you have ambitions to succeed at the university, be proactive in utilising the diverse and talented people around you, from course mates to staff and alumni. Sometimes you can get all the help you need just by hearing things from a different perspective’.
