University of Hertfordshire celebrates A-Level success together with Sixth Form students

The University of Hertfordshire joined students at Luton Sixth Form College yesterday (Thursday, 13 August) as they received their A-level results, celebrating a major milestone in their educational journeys and helping them take the next steps towards their future careers.

Dr Charmagne Barnes, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience at Herts, met students as they opened their results and joined them in celebrating their achievements. The University’s Education Liaison team was also on hand to provide on-the-spot offers, guidance, and encouragement.

Dr Barnes said: “I want to congratulate everyone receiving their A-level results this week on reaching this important milestone. Whatever your results, there are still plenty of opportunities available, and Clearing can be a valuable route to finding a course and university that are the right fit for you.

With over 3,200 16-18-year-old students, Luton Sixth Form College describes itself as one of the largest sixth form colleges in the country, with significant numbers of students coming to study every year at the University of Hertfordshire. It achieved a record 94% pass rate.

“We're delighted that so many students from Luton Sixth Form College will be joining us in September,” continued Dr Barnes. “Our outstanding student experience, strong focus on employability and our accessibility as a destination all play an important role in helping students make that decision.

“Now it's our responsibility to provide an education that not only supports students to succeed academically, but also equips them with the skills, experience and confidence to build rewarding careers and fulfil their potential.”

Altaf Hussain, CEO and Principal of Luton Sixth Form College, said what mattered most was that each and every student felt supported and empowered to take their next step “whether that’s going off to university, doing an apprenticeship, or entering employment".

“We really value all the planning and co-ordination throughout the year with our university partners such as the University of Hertfordshire. This ongoing relationship helps us and our students when it comes to managing A-level results day.”

One of the students from Luton Sixth Form College celebrating this week is 18-year-old Mita from Luton. She said:

“I am so pleased that I got the grades I needed and now I am really looking forward to studying Business Management at the University of Hertfordshire. I knew before my grades came out that I wanted to come to Herts because I had been to an open evening and I loved the campus, plus, the flexibility to study and live from home really appeals to me.”

Herts is continuing to invest in world-class facilities, including Hertfordshire Medical School, the county's first ever medical school, which opens in just two weeks. Recent developments also include Spectra, a cutting-edge science and engineering hub, Propeller, a professional-standard film and TV studio, and a major new healthcare building is currently under construction.
