Herts’ Dean appointed President of The College of Optometrists
The University of Hertfordshire’s Dean of the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences – Professor Irene Ctori – has been appointed the new President of The College of Optometrists.
Professor Ctori, who previously served as Vice President of the College, was appointed to the prestigious role in recognition of her extensive experience in both clinical practice and optometry education. Before becoming Dean at Herts – where she continues to advance optometry education – she held a number of senior leadership roles that have helped shape professional standards and drive innovation in optometry across the UK and internationally.
Her appointment reflects her longstanding contribution to the profession and her leadership in shaping the future of optometry.
Professor Ctori said: “I look forward to building on the important work already underway to ensure optometrists remain at the heart of eyecare delivery, with their full range of skills, knowledge and competencies recognised, valued and utilised for the benefit of patients.
“My heartfelt thanks go to our outgoing President, Dr Gillian Rudduck, for her invaluable contributions and commitment to advancing the future of optometry during her tenure. I am also delighted to welcome our newly elected trustees and College council members, and I look forward to working alongside them over the next two years as we continue to champion and support the profession.”
At the University of Hertfordshire, Professor Ctori plays a key role in driving innovation across the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals and strengthening links with industry and clinical partners.
Dr Gillian Rudduck will continue her involvement with the College as a trustee and council member for the North West of England. Hassnain Safdar has been appointed Vice President, with Irfan Razvi and Professor Kathryn Saunders elected as trustees.
Ian Humphreys, Chief Executive of The College of Optometrists, said: “Congratulations to our new President, trustees and council members. We look forward to working with Irene and the new members of our board and council as we continue to deliver our strategic plan.”
