The award, issued by Hertfordshire County Council, celebrates food businesses that are working to improve public health as well as reducing environmental impact. The gold status is the highest level of recognition available under the scheme.

Aramark earned commendation from judges for its affordable healthy options, clear carbon labelling on menus, and proactive efforts to reduce food waste across campus food outlets. Its strategy aligns with the council’s wider public health goals and is in line with Herts’s own commitment to environmental responsibility.

Ian Grimes, Director of Estates at the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“It’s fantastic to see Aramark’s dedication to health and sustainability recognised with a Gold Hertfordshire Responsible Food Award. This achievement reflects our shared commitment to creating a campus environment where wellbeing and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. From carbon-labelled menus to reducing food waste, Aramark’s efforts are making a real difference for our students, staff, and the wider community.”

Stuart Fildes, Group Executive Chef at Aramark, said:

“We support health and sustainability by providing healthy nutritional food for the students. Making not only exciting, tasty meals but also including CO2 and Kcal information on all dishes, so the students can make a balanced choice.”

The Hertfordshire Responsible Food Award scheme supports the government’s long-term health strategy. The three award levels, standard, silver, and gold, recognise food provision achievements across the county. Herts is proud to be part of a growing network of local organisations demonstrating leadership in sustainability and wellbeing.
