The University of Hertfordshire has been chosen as one of the official Festival Hubs for Being Human Festival 2025, a free, nationwide festival showcasing the brilliant humanities research happening across the UK.

Running from 6–15 November, the festival - which this year has the theme ‘Between the Lines’, exploring the spaces in between cultures, identities, histories, ideas and more - brings free, public events to communities across the country showcasing how humanities research, from literature and linguistics, to folklore and film, aims to helps us understand ourselves and the world around us.

As one of the funded Festival Hubs for this year’s event, Herts will be delivering an extensive programme of free, exciting activity for members of the public to enjoy across the county. From exploring identities that straddle boundaries and places that slip between borders, to drawing on Hertfordshire’s rich heritage of folklore, film, and storytelling, events will invite the public to uncover old stories and create new ones through hands-on, thought-provoking experiences.

Highlights will include a storytelling performance for children based on local folklore, a film screening with work by Black British filmmakers and a horror-film inspired prosthetics workshop.

Professor Quintin McKellar CBE, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, said:

"We are absolutely thrilled to be a Festival Hub for the Being Human Festival 2025. The humanities help us make sense of who we are - our stories, our struggles, our shared humanity. They connect us across time and place, and remind us that creativity, empathy and curiosity are powerful tools for change.

“Being part of the Being Human Festival will not only be a chance to showcase some of the remarkable humanities research being done at Herts, it will also be an opportunity to spark conversations and celebrate the extraordinary ways the humanities shape our lives every day.”

More information about the University of Hertfordshire’s events and how to get involved will be published on the University’s website and social channels soon.

Being Human is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For more information visit https://beinghumanfestival.org.
