One of the most substantial digital investments in the institution's history, Herts will be incorporating TechnologyOne’s next-generation, cloud-based Student Record System (SRS), marking a major step forward in its digital transformation strategy.

The new system will be rolled out in phases over the next four years and will touch every part of the university, simplifying the management of the entire student lifecycle - from application to graduation. It will deliver faster enrolment processes, easier access to services and more personalised support for students, while giving staff real-time access to trusted data to support smarter decision-making.

This move builds on a 17-year partnership between the University and TechnologyOne, and follows recent expansions of the platform to include Timetabling and Scheduling and Project Lifecycle Management (PLM). The adoption of Student Management marks the university’s largest future-focused digital transformation to date, aligned with its ambitious 2030 growth strategy.

Key features of the new system include:

  • Streamlined processes: Standardised procedures across Herts will save time and improve consistency.
  • Seamless integration: The SRS will integrate with existing systems to enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Real-time data: Staff will benefit from instant access to reliable data for better decision-making.
  • Sustainability and security: The cloud-based platform supports the University’s long-term goals for environmental responsibility and data protection.
  • Scalability: Designed to grow with the university, the system will support its expansion plans well beyond 2030.

Professor Anthony Woodman, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“As part of our current Strategy , we highlighted the need for digital transformation to provide the tools and technology necessary to work smarter and deliver exceptional experiences to our growing community. The new TechnologyOne Student Record System will be a vital enabler of this ambition and reflects our commitment to investing in technology that improves both the student and staff experience, strengthens our global reputation, and reinforces our position as a modern and dynamic institution.”

According to David Gillard, Chief Information and Digital Officer at the University of Hertfordshire, TechnologyOne’s proven track record, modern SaaS architecture, and deep understanding of UK higher education were key factors in its selection. He said:

“TechnologyOne is a trusted partner, helping us shape a world-class student experience. Their single platform was key, giving us the digital backbone to grow, evolve, and deliver on our 2030 vision. This partnership is about transformation, with the right technology, at the right time.”

Stuart MacDonald, Chief Operating Officer at TechnologyOne, commented:

“The University of Hertfordshire is proof of a forward-looking institution focused on innovation and growth. Our platform is built to help ambitious universities scale, simplify operations, and improve the trajectory and experience for every student. We’re proud to be partnering on this journey.”

The partnership supports the University’s Strategy 2025–2030, which aims to power staff, students and society, while enhancing its global reputation as a high-achieving, modern, dynamic and enterprising institution.
