Major campaign to boost disability sport and physical activity launched in Hertfordshire
No Limits 2026, unveiled at the University’s College Lane campus during Disability History Month, aims not just to raise awareness but to drive real action in making sport and physical activity more inclusive, visible and accessible across the county.
Research shows that people with disabilities or long-term health conditions are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people, but 76% of them want to be more active.
No Limits 2026 will tackle the persistent barriers of transport, cost, confidence and lack of provision, and work with partners to create welcoming spaces, train more coaches, fund new initiatives, and amplify the voices of disabled people through a county-wide ambassador programme.
Led by HSP in partnership with the Herts Disability Sports Foundation and the Activity Alliance, the campaign forms part of Hertfordshire’s Year of Disability Sport & Physical Activity.
John O’Callaghan, Director of Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership, said:
“Too many disabled people in Hertfordshire still face barriers that prevent them from enjoying the benefits of being active. Through No Limits 2026, we’re focusing on what matters most: creating opportunities that meet people’s needs and make a lasting difference. Working with partners across the county, we want to drive meaningful, long-term change.”
Launching the initiative by hosting a guest speaker panel, Dr. Christopher Brown, Senior Lecturer in Sport Development at Herts, and an expert in parasports, said:
“No Limits 2026 will grow local opportunities for disabled people to be active, celebrate inclusion and champion real stories through the ambassador programme, support organisations with funding advice, training and an activation toolkit, and create a lasting legacy of confidence, connection and participation.”
A new ‘campaign hub’ brings together inspiring stories, an activity finder for local opportunities, inclusive events, ambassador videos, and practical resources for partner organisations, including downloadable brand assets and guidance on getting involved.
