Herts hosts first ever state-of-the-art Spectra Labs showcase event
Hosted by the Technical Services Group within the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS), the event presented a platform to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
A total of 115 attendees took part, including 25 representatives from 10 UK universities, 20 professionals from nine companies (ranging from major corporations to SMEs), as well as 70 Herts staff members, including academics, postdoctoral researchers, and technical staff.
The event featured tours of Spectra Labs, showcasing more than 40 advanced scientific instruments.
Highlights included demonstrations of electron microscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, particle analysis, and applied technologies such as human-robot interaction, a supersonic wind tunnel, a full-scale flight simulator, and the Strong Floor structural testing suite.
Helen Goddard, Head of SPECS Technical Services Group, said:
“It was wonderful to welcome academia and industry experts to the University of Hertfordshire for our first ever Inside Spectra Labs event and provide attendees with the exciting opportunity to engage with cutting-edge tools, exchange expertise, and explore possibilities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
“From electron microscopy to supersonic wind tunnels, the event demonstrated advanced scientific equipment in action while also facilitating knowledge exchange."
Designed to build new partnerships, plans already underway to make Inside Spectra Labs an annual fixture in the University’s science and technology calendar.
