Run by a dedicated team within the University’s Centre for Education and Student Success, PSQM is a year-long, evidence-informed professional development and accreditation programme that empowers primary science subject leaders to raise the quality and profile of science leadership, curriculum, teaching and learning in their schools. Since its launch in 2010, over 6,000 Quality Marks have been awarded, positively influencing the learning experience of more than one million children across the UK and internationally – from Thailand to Chile.

Schools that complete the programme submit for accreditation and are awarded a nationally recognised Primary Science Quality Mark, celebrating their achievements and commitment to science education.  Last week, 308 schools were accredited with a Quality Mark following successful completion of the programme.

Helen Sizer, Director of the PSQM Programme at the University of Hertfordshire, said:

“It is always such a joy to see the commitment and passion that the whole school community brings to their PSQM journey. The collective dedication to developing strong, purposeful science education to ensure every child experiences high-quality science education is something to be proud of.”

At the heart of PSQM’s mission is a belief that every child deserves inspiring, high-quality science learning that builds curiosity, understanding, and a lifelong love of science. By developing effective science leadership and sharing best practice, PSQM schools are helping shape the next generation of scientists, problem-solvers and innovators.

Feedback from participating schools has been overwhelmingly positive, with many reporting a tangible shift in staff confidence, pupil engagement and the quality of teaching and learning.

Ms Sizer added: “To all newly accredited schools, the University of Hertfordshire extends its warmest congratulations. We look forward to continuing to champion primary science education together.”
