As thousands of students donned their gowns for graduation at St Albans Cathedral over the last two weeks, during the University of Hertfordshire's latest graduation ceremonies, one family from Hertfordshire marked a particularly special milestone. For Aiden Croft, 25, from Knebworth, graduating with first-class honours in Film & TV Production is more than a personal achievement - it’s the latest chapter in a shared family journey through the University of Hertfordshire.

Aiden is one of three close relatives who have studied – or are continuing to study - at Herts. His sister Annabelle, 28 - known as Bella - and cousin Jess, 22, have also found their academic paths shaped by the University’s vibrant community and strong reputation in the arts and education.

“It feels really good to be graduating,” said Aiden. “I’m now looking for a role in video editing for film. During my course, I secured a placement at Post-House in London  - since renamed No.8 London - where I worked behind the scenes on Sexy Beast, episodes of Black Mirror and more. That experience confirmed I want to stay in post-production - it’s where I feel most at home.”

Aiden’s success is part of a wider family story. Bella, who lives in Stevenage, was the first to attend university, graduating with a BSc in Sports Studies and later an MA in Education. Her positive experience led her to return to Herts professionally, where she now works as an Education Liaison Officer.

“I’m incredibly proud of Aiden,” she said. “He and Jess both followed me to Herts after seeing how much I gained from my time here. Now, I get to offer places to new students and witness their excitement when they realise they’ve secured a place on their dream course. It’s a privilege, and it’s been especially meaningful to support my brother at his graduation this week.”

Their cousin Jess, 22, is currently in her final year of a BA in Illustration and loving the course. A passionate artist since childhood, Jess has already begun applying her skills to exhibitions and competitions, turning her creativity into practical success.

“I’ve been drawing since I was ten,” she said. “The course has helped me refine my style and expand what I can create. One of my favourite projects was designing a giant robot head! I’ve even sold some of my work, which has helped cover important bills.”

Together, Aiden, Bella and Jess represent the University of Hertfordshire’s commitment to nurturing talent across disciplines - from film and television to education and the arts. Their stories reflect how a university experience can spark ambition, unlock creativity, and lead to exciting futures.

For the Croft family, it’s a moment of pride, reflection, and celebration - proof that education can inspire not just individuals, but entire families.
