Creating a legacy

A gift in your will, or in-memory of someone special, is a powerful way to support future generations at Herts, creating opportunity that honours a life meaningfully.

Many supporters who value the opportunities that Herts gave them choose to remember the University after providing for family and friends. Their generosity helps remove barriers and open doors for future students, and every gift, of whatever size, creates a life-changing impact for those who benefit from it.

In memory giving also offers a heartfelt tribute, supporting students, research or areas that reflect a loved one’s passions or connection to Herts. For many families, it brings comfort to know that their legacy continues to help others succeed.

How to leave a gift in your will to the University of Hertfordshire

If you wish to leave a gift in your will to the University, you may wish to discuss our sample will wording with our team.

We recommend discussing all potential benefits of leaving a gift to the University with your solicitor or financial planner, given that the law varies by country, and inheritance tax is a complex area.

However, as an exempt charity, a gift in your will to the University can be tax-exempt and so could reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable, if the net value of your estate is above the inheritance tax threshold.

Leaving a gift in your will to the University is straightforward and these gifts are administered through the Development Team. Including this information in your will helps your executors know who to contact.

Please also include the University’s address and Exempt Charity Number:

We would be grateful if you could inform us of your decision to leave a gift in your will to the University so that we can send proper thanks and include you in our donor community.
