The University of Hertfordshire is committed to increasing the number of care experienced students accessing and succeeding in higher education. We understand that the application process and settling in at university can be particularly challenging for care experienced students and want to provide support in making your time at Herts as stress free and successful as possible.
If you are in local authority care, or have recently left care and are wondering what your next step should be, we can offer you lots of support and practical help.

The Student Success team are dedicated to supporting you throughout your time at the University of Hertfordshire, helping you to develop the skills and knowledge you need to progress successfully through your course and all the way to graduation.
We can also help you get ready for employment in the career of your choice, working closely with our expert colleagues in the Careers and Employment Service here at the University.
Throughout your time with us, you will have a dedicated member of staff within the Student Success team that can give you guidance and support should you need it. We can also liaise with your Personal Advisor or Local Authority (with your consent). Support with equipment, academic textbook resources and food vouchers are also available (subject to eligibility).
We know that some students worry that going to university will be expensive. We offer care experienced students a bursary worth £1500 per year for their three years of undergraduate study (subject to eligibility checks). First year undergraduate students (Level 4), may also be eligible for the bursary.

The University of Hertfordshire is able to guarantee care experienced students with accommodation all year (including outside of term times), if required.
We can also support you with accommodation issues (both on campus and privately rented accommodation).
You will have priority access to the Student Success programme of activities which typically includes:
- academic mentoring or coaching
- financial advice and support
- peer mentoring
- exam support ad preparation
- wellbeing and self-care resources.
We can help you find paid work opportunities such as becoming a Student Ambassador or BAME Advocate here at Herts. We can also help you find volunteering roles through the Students' Union.

We will support you to apply for a Go Herts Award. This award celebrates the University of Hertfordshire's student's engagement with opportunities, outside of the assessed part of their degree, which contribute to their employability.
