UHArts

UHArts brings high quality arts and culture to students and staff at the University of Hertfordshire and to the wider local community. The events programme includes contemporary visual art and design, media, music and live arts.

As part of the contemporary visual arts programme within the School of Creative Arts, UHArts presents three exhibitions a year in the Art and Design Gallery, alongside artists’ residencies, talks and pop-up events.

Culture on campus

UHArts also manages the University’s extensive Art Collection, which features over 500 works dispersed across the campuses, with highlights from the collection exhibited in the Chapman Gallery on College Lane Campus. There are also Collection ‘hot-spot’ displays in the Fielder Centre and Lindop Foyer. As well as this, UHArts offers free guided sculpture walks at 1pm on the first Monday of every month in term time, exploring 13 outdoor sculptures including works by Barbara Hepworth and Andy Goldsworthy.

The live programme features an inspirational and entertaining mix of theatre, dance, film, comedy, live music and performances. These take place at venues across both campuses. The University of Hertfordshire has a resident orchestra - the de Havilland Philharmonic – which performs regularly at the Weston Auditorium. Membership of the orchestra is free for students and new players (Grade 8 +) are always welcome.

Work experience for students

UHArts welcomes student volunteers within its visual arts and theatre teams, and offers occasional internships and work experience opportunities for those seeking a career in the arts.  UHArts works closely with departments within the School of Creative Arts to identify opportunities for students to create or curate parts of the public programme.
