Uploading a PDF or MS Office document

Before you start

  • On your computer, give your document a descriptive file name.
  • Remember to remove all capital letters and spaces from the file name.

What to do

Uploading the document

  1. Open Edit+ by adding '/_edit' at the end of any url on the University's website.
  2. Click the 'New' button on the black strip at the top of the Edit+ screen.
  3. Select 'File' and then select the type of document you would like to upload.
  4. Browse to find the document on your computer.
  5. Give the file a friendly name. The name will be used in Edit+ to help you find your document again.
  6. Say 'No' to show in menu.
  7. Click 'Select NEW location' and use the asset tree to select 'Files' and the relevant sub folder.
  8. Click the blue 'Select' button.
  9. Click the blue 'Create' button (but be careful not to click the 'Close' button located in the same spot in the next window).
  10. Click the 'Edit' button that appears in the next window.
  11. Make your document live (or apply for approval).

Linking to the document

  1. Go to the web page where you would like to add a link to your document.
  2. Add '/_edit' at the end of the page url.
  3. If the page is live, remember to set it to 'Safe Edit' before you add the link.
  4. Click on the 'Content' tab.
  5. Highlight the text that will link to your file. Remember to use a descriptive link name. (The name of your link should = the content of the document you are linking to. 'Click here' links should not be used.)

  6. Click on the little chain icon in the pop up box or at the top of the Edit+ tool bar.
  7. Click on the cross hair icon by the URL field in the box that appears and use the asset tree to find your new document in the relevant 'Files' folder.
  8. Click include summary in the popup box (this will make sure the size of the pdf file is shown on screen).
  9. Click 'Apply changes'. Then click away from the box.
  10. Click the green 'Save' button in the top right-hand side of the screen.
  11. Return to the details screen and apply for approval (or publish your page).
